YES group consists of Ying, Emily and Sasha who have shown an interesting take on 'The Ultimate City'. YES tried to capture the beginning of Halloway's journey into the old city and generate a sense of eery abandonment within their images. The dark tones in their images were used to convey a sense of death and emptiness within the city. Colour was used sparingly to create a sense of coldness which Halloway encountered during his first landing into the city. The repetition of trees within the three images gives the city a gothic and deathly feel. It is a place where nothing lives. The physical environment here is displayed to appear very empty and scarce of any living organisms.
YES have been efficent in communicating with each other, setting up a blog, y--e--s.tumblr.com and sharing ideas through their Facebook page, texting and emailing. Their ability to communicate and understand each others view of the Ultimate City has allowed them to create a cohesive display of the elevations and section.
YES created several avatars which allowed them to experiment with different materials such as wax, silicone and plasticine. They also researched about bamboo and plastics and its function in buildings.
Overall, YES has shown a good start in developing their Ultimate City and hotel design. It will be interesting to see their dystopic idea at the next stage and through the course of this semester.
