Jenny: Team 21 A/L/D peer review (Week 3)

Plant room (waiheke)
A/L/D have formed two distinct plant rooms that heavily conveyed a sense of movement. For this project they did not want to be defined as utopia and dystopia, but for the inhibitor to decide for themselves what they regard as utopia and dystopia. For their plant room (waiheke) they used perspex and wood to create entrances that can be adjustable by moving the frames. This movement allows for a change in air flow and also act like a puzzle. They tried to convey a sense of chaos through the textures on the perspex as well as an experience of enclosure and sense of entrapment.

For their second plant room (beach rd) they emphasized the running theme of movement in their design visually. A/L/D created flowing curves of mdf and stacked over 50 sheets of the laser cutting shape to create a three dimensional wall that appeared sinuous and flowing. Three panels were placed at the front of the curvaceous wall to suggest a link with the other plant room. It's great to see a strong sense of movement in both pieces of work, one stimulating a visual movement while the other a more logical sense of movement.

A/L/D found that the most challenging part of this project was the initial joint methods of the different materials and also the time constraints on this project. However, it was great to see that they completed all their work by the given deadline. A/L/D has definitely shown that they have a clear vision on what they are pursuing for this project and a whole and it is great to see how cohesive their designs are. Click here to visit their blog
